Overview: Crafting The Big Data Application Suite For HR

The Big Data Analytics Suite (BDAS) is a pioneering data analytics platform in the HR industry, with PepsiCo as its launch partner. Designed to deliver a holistic data solution for the entire recruitment spectrum, BDAS quickly attracted 20 high-profile clients and generated over $2 million in revenue in its first year. This suite empowers enterprises to leverage complex data for streamlined recruitment processes and strategic decision-making.

Problem: The Need For Comprehensive HR Data Integration

Despite the critical role of big data in strategic recruitment, more than half of hiring managers do not utilize these insights for planning. Furthermore, 50% of HR managers describe their skills in workforce analytics as average or poor. The vast and complex nature of data often prevents talent acquisition leaders from unlocking valuable insights and constructing a story in the data.

Strategic Research And User Engagement

Tasked with the design of an innovative HR application, my initial engagement involved deep-dive sessions with PepsiCo’s HR executives and other stakeholders. This application concept was initially brainstormed during a conversation between my CEO and PepsiCo's hiring director at an HR convention. Notably, PepsiCo lacked a robust analytics tool specifically for HR, highlighting a significant opportunity for innovation. My collaborative research focused on enhancing decision-making through in-depth analysis of HR metrics and KPI’s, such as candidate hiring effectiveness, job source effectiveness, and job performance data.

Discovery Document Overview: This image displays the Excel spreadsheet crafted by PepsiCo executives during a two-day executive HR retreat. It serves as an application discovery document, outlining essential data and metrics which are integral to developing key performance indicators.

Synthesis And Analysis Of User Data

The design process involved breaking down complex HR metrics into digestible visualizations during ideation sessions, fostering an environment of stakeholder collaboration and iterative feedback. My approach included extensive user research to organize and prioritize data metrics, resulting in intuitive dashboards that simplify user interactions. Key insights were synthesized from these sessions, providing a clear direction for my actionable and impactful design solution.

Design Thinking in Action: Pictured here are the brainstorming and white board sketching sessions that laid the groundwork for the application's content and user flow scenarios. These low-fidelity wireframes and diagrams were instrumental in defining the structural blueprint of the application.

UX Design Lifecycle Management

I managed every phase of the UX design process, from concept to final execution. This included detailed user flow and interaction design for critical dashboards and application interfaces. BDAS was pre-generative AI, it was designed with advanced data auditing capabilities to preemptively identify and correct data discrepancies, ensuring high data integrity and reliability.
